NEPA

Any projects with federal funding or the need for a federal permit must complete the NEPA process. The purpose of the NEPA process is to assess how a major infrastructure improvement project will affect both the natural and human environment, and to ensure that the chosen design has the least amount of impact. The above graphic demonstrates the steps that all project must complete when complying with NEPA. The below graphic demonstrates the type of analysis and technical studies required when developing possible design alternatives. . In addition to these studies, Charleston County will engage relevant agencies, stakeholders, and the public to ensure decisions are made in the best overall public interest.
